Want to record a song but don’t have the slightest idea what to do next? Are you disappointed with the sound quality of your videos or podcast? Do you want to sound like a pro? It’s not as hard as it looks and I can show you.

Most people do something once or twice and say things like, “I guess I’m just not cut out for doing this.” it could be anything, drawing, writing, cooking but, in our case it’s music and all the methods used to capture it in some sort of medium. That’s because the world tells us that people that do the great things we enjoy like music and movies and such, are special people that were born with something that you and I don’t have. That is simply just BS. There are varying degrees of innate ability but if you are of normal intelligence and are willing to put in the work you can become reasonably skilled at just about anything, recording and mixing music is no different. Don’t believe the lie, the magic is in the time spent doing. If you spend time with your craft you will become better at it.

Ok, so you say I am capable of doing this, now what? Don’t I need really expensive equipment to sound good?…

And I say this with as much disdain as I can muster, NO! I just can’t get across how wrong that is. There are people out there getting great recordings with their phones! With a few basic supplies you can get started recording your first song or podcast or whatever. You might even have most of what you need already.

  1. Do you have your instrument/voice?
  2. Do you have a computer; A laptop or desktop. Mac or PC it simply does not matter. Don’t let anybody tell you it does.
  3. Do you have a way to get audio into your computer? Any sound card with an audio in is good enough to get started. Just about every computer will have a mic input.
  4. Do you have a mic? You can get a usable mic for about $100.00
  5. Do you have a DAW? Digital Audio Workstation. If you don’t you can get the intro version of Pro Tools for free but I like Cakewalk. Cakewalk by Bandlab is totally free and it is pro quality.

So to me it looks like most people can get started for around $100.00. What are you waiting for?

The world needs your music so get to work.
